Take it to the Bridge

TAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE

1995 - Just weeks after the end of a two month tour of Britain (Oct/Nov), Loudon appeared on VH-1 (a satellite channel).

He chatted about 'Little Ship' then, did a song that wasn't even on the latest CD - 'What Gives?'

JACK DOHERTY SHOW

1997 - In the middle of his last UK tour, Loudon appeared on the Jack Doherty chat show.

Before singing, Loudon came on without his guitar and chatted for a few minutes.

Jack confessed to being a fan and having several of his albums (the first one being 'Attempted Moustache"), though he suggested to Loudon (in a friendly way) that most people under 30 probably wouldn't know who he is.

Asked to describe himself to 'them', Loudon said "well, I'm just a guy, an older guy, who writes songs and sings them, . . and nobody's heard of." He went on to add that he was "big, thirty years ago".

Referring to Loudon's various songs about failed romance songs, unhappy love songs, does it not get any better? Loudon said "no, you just keep making the same mistakes."

On the subject of the 'songs about ageing', Jack Doherty offered the line "woke up this morning - couldn't remember where I'd been again." Loudon grinned, and talked about still singing at 70, and writing songs about the nursing home etc.

M*A*S*H was mentioned and a clip was shown of Loudon acting in the British TV drama series 'Soldier, Soldier' ("both military shows") and he also talked about acting with Robert De Niro in 'Jacknife'

Loudon then returned at the end of the show to sing 'Breakfast In Bed' accompanied by Dave Mansfield on the mandolin.

This tour was known (unofficially, anyway) as the 'Red Shirt Tour' and he wore it for TV appearances in both Britain and Ireland, as well as several of the UK concerts.

Loudon on Irish TV

KENNY LIVE

1997 - About a week later, he was on Irish TV to promote the concert at Dublin's Olympia Theatre the following night (see my Dublin review).

No chat this time, just a brief two minute appearance - he sang 'O.G.M'.
