ROCKPALAST CONCERTS

1976 - First show recorded on 3rd December 1976. The songs played were:

Say That You Love Me
Down Drinking at the Bar
Plane Too
The Eight Bar Blues
Unrequited to the Nth Degree
Red Guitar (on the Piano)
B Side
Motel Blues
Talkin' Big Apple '75
Bicentennial
Surfer Queen
Dead Skunk
Twist and Shout
Schooldays

Loudon's most recent album at the time was 'T Shirt' and a enormous 'blowup' of the front cover formed the backdrop. Hey, I just love that 'subtle' kind of advertising!

With his beard, Loudon looks almost unrecognisable, but there's definitely no mistaking the voice.

In both concerts he had this routine of wearing a cap for the first few numbers, then putting it back on again for the encores. Strange . . . !!!

Much like the following concert, reaction was quite muted. Perhaps this is why he introduced a very well known song ('Twist and Shout') as a sing-a-long type encore. He referred to it as "an Isley Brothers number."

1984 - Second concert recorded on 11/11/84, with songs:

Whatever Happened To Us?
Plane Too
Revenge
Be Careful there's a Baby . . .
Five Years Old
April Fools Day Morn
You Kids Today
Expatriate
Unrequited to the Nth Degree
Surfer Queen
The Swimming Song
Motel Blues
Not John
Fame and Wealth
Suicide Song
Career Moves
Nocturnal Stumble Butt
Dead Skunk
Down Drinking at the Bar

Loudon began by apologising that the songs are written in English.

After a couple of songs, he explained that he'd just flown over from Ireland and that Aer Lingus (the Irish state airline) managed to lose his "bags" so his "socks and underwear were stinking up Europe" (thus, he has to wear a Rockpalast T shirt). He dedicated 'Revenge' to Aer Lingus.

What struck me about this concert, was the almost total silence with which many of his funny lines and remarks were received. I guess it must be the language barrier. The songs really depend so much on the lyrics.
