Many thanks to BAREBOARD
for the video stills, and to Tim Mooney for the review
of Loudon's appearance on the show.
Wow!
Great performance; great song!
Worth staying up for, and even waiting through 10 minutes
of commercials for! Conan was pushing the soundtrack to
the "hit movie" "28 Days". Thank you, but,
no.
The song started out a bit shaky:
"I'm the last man on earth," a bit
pretentious, no?
But then, the several incredible
lines started adding up to something bigger and bigger. Here's
the line that won me over, and I'm not sure if I've even transcribed
it correctly: "Existence is no picnic." Just
listen to the
assonance, the "s's" and the "i's".
The song climaxes, as it were,
in a sort of desert island scenario, with
Loudon the "last man on Earth" promising to satisfy
the woman who was
"forced to sleep with me."
Leave it to Loudon to push a
song that's not even featured on the disc that
the host is pushing on the audience! A song that, in fact, they
couldn't go
out and buy, - even if they wanted to!
