Welcome to a website
which is dedicated to the legendary American singer/songwriter
Loudon Wainwright
III.
I first heard Loudon's music back
in 1976, whilst listening to an 'end of year' BBC Radio 1 program
which was featuring the best songs from acoustic concerts that
had been broadcast during the year. I was taping the programme
in the hope of hearing songs by Don McLean and was intrigued
by this guy with a weird name and also the two crazy songs featured
that evening - 'Talking Big Apple '75' and 'The Man Who Couldn't
Cry ' (although, of course, I didn't know what their correct
titles were, way back then).
Less than two years later, Loudon
was featured on an hour long concert which was broadcast both
on TV and radio at the same time (or simultaneously, if you like
;-) and I played the tape recording of it constantly. A year
after that, I went to my first LWIII concert, and, well, I've
been hooked on his music ever since!!!!
It's interesting, though, the comparison
with McLean who also came from New York and began playing acoustic
guitar music at the same time. Whilst McLean has almost completely
stopped writing new songs and concentrates on cover versions
of old standards, Loudon is still writing exciting new songs
of the very highest quality, although some of the very best have
yet to be 'officially' released.

Photographed on London's busy Charring
Cross road, the Dominion Theatre in the background, and Loudon's
name up in lights. A real nice picture indeed.
The artistic effect is achieved
by using a tripod with the camera, and a long exposure (maybe
2 or 3 seconds) with Loudon standing absolutely still, whilst
everybody else is moving. Very stylish!!!

Loudon Wainwright
III appeared on NBC's 'The Conan O'Brien show' on Tuesday 6th
June (US Television).
Conan was busy
plugging the soundtrack of the '28 Days' film which features
some of Loudon's music (see the panel below this one).
Loudon sang a
BRAND NEW song, entitled 'The Last Man In The World.' Typical
of the man to play something which you can't buy anywhere :-)
The man has so much talent and ideas for new songs that
the recording industry just can't keep up!!!
Loudon
is featured in a new film called '28 Days'.
Directed by Betty Thomas, it
stars Sandra Bullock, and is a kind of wacky comedy that takes
place in a drug and alcohol rehab.
Loudon plays the role of 'the
guitar guy' - or one of the 'wasted types' (Loudon's words).

Several new versions of Loudon's
songs are 'featured' . . .
'The Drinking Song' (originally
from Album III) 'Heaven and Mud' (originally from
Final Exam) 'Dreaming' (originally from History) 'White Winos' - a NEW and unrecorded song, which
has been widely praised by everyone who has heard it at his recent
concerts, (and apparently he also sings on) 'Joy To The World' - the (1970) Three Dog Night hit (the song that starts 'Jerahmiah was a bullfrog'
:-))

Loudon's first two albums, Album I and Album II (both
long deleted), are, for a very limited time, on sale as a limited
edition (and first and only time on CD). Both albums are combined
on a single CD, with an extra track and booklet.
'The Atlantic
Recordings' can
only be ordered from RHINO
